This project gives women the chance to tell their own story of single motherhood, not depicted of what is shown the media, creating an honest modern-day representation of strength, challenges, growth and determination. Within this project, my main aim is to celebrate these women, breaking down outdated harmful stereotypes that once was reflected within the media. There were three main elements I wanted to focus on, creating a celebration of womanhood, showing the vulnerable, the raw and the moments that are cherished the most. This was captured through staged documentary imagery, exploring the good and the bad. This project mainly focuses on working class women who are building careers in a diverse range of areas whilst raising young children, exploring the domestic environments of these women, and capturing the shared spaces with their children that speak volumes around their journeys throughout motherhood. It was important for me to explore the dominant hardships within single motherhood, focusing the challenges faced such as identity crises, financial struggles, and balancing a career alongside motherhood.
